Paper has been an important business in Lucca since the 14th century. The industry has developed and adapted with the times and market needs but the abundance of water in this zone means that paper is still one of the main exports from this area.
Lucca holds biannually an exhibition to pay homage to this important local product and artists from around the world transform this humble paper into extravagant works of art. Walk around the streets and piazzas and even inside the wall and you will trip over these creations.

There are also paid exhibitions in the Mercato di Carmine and Palazzo Reale but I think they are much more fun out in the streets.
