Italy becomes the land of tourists in the summer and it is harder to
find authentic simple food in the cities, prices seem to rise and often
quality diminishes but go up in the hills off the beaten track and find a
village restaurant. These places survive on the locals and workers so
need to keep their quality up and prices real. They use local
ingredients and work with a passion in the centre of their rural
community. We spent the morning in one such village restaurant above
Bagni di Lucca and discovered the joys and pains of owning a village
trattoria.
